SURPRISE PACKETS
ON VIEW LAST NIGHT. ' Yesterday evening at SI shed, Jervois -uay, the grand surprise packet display of goods, organised by the war funds collecting committee of the Commercial Travellers’ Association, was opened for the public’s inspection. The proceeus from the sale of tickets will be applied to the relief funds for blinded so-iUiei s and sailors. The committee notify rhat they , will gladly send for any goods'for which the owners have no further use, ox* would liko turned into cosh for tho funds. The sale of tickets (at one shilling each) will commence this morning at 8 o’clock and tickets will bo rede&mable five minutes later. The amount of merchandise collected is -enormous, and valued at well over ,£3OOO. \ a nous trades, wholesale and retail, have generously contributed the bulk of the article,, which include many valuable prizes. PRIZES FOR ALL. Among the most valuable prizes are a section valued at .£125, a handsome suite of upholstered chairs, a treadle sewing machine with electric motor attachment, a vacuum cleaner, articles of jewellery, a typewriter and well filled bookcase. There are also groceries, books, fancy goods of every description, including cocks and antimony rare, drapery and clothing, musical', instruments, toilet goods and pictures. The prizes also include 51b packets of tea. 100 silt Sinuses, and IGOO picture show tickets. Sir Joseph "Ward paid a brief visit of inspection last night, and was heard to congratulate. an official on the excellence of the display.
