ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF INSTITUTE. Press Association DUNEDIN, September 4. At the annual conference of the New Zealand Railway Officers’ Institute a telegram was received from Mr Hiley (General Manager of Railways) expressing the department’s appreciation of the assistance given by all grades of railwaymcn during the war crisis. The conference unanimously resolved that tho attention of the department be drawn to the fact that many positions in the stores branch are, considerably underpaid compared with other branches, and that the department should mako tho necessary promotions to rectify the grievance. A-motion for an elective executive with headquarters at Wellington was defeated, but it was proposed to set up a sub-committee resident in Wellington to place the views of the executive before the management.
