NEW ZEALAND SOLDIERS
THEIR ITS' TERT AINMENT I N ENGLA-VD. At the meeting at the advisory board of the War Relief Societies lately held in Wellington, reference was made to a letter which had been received from l-orcl Plunket stating that the War Contingent Association wanted money to spend on the men on furlough in England. He pointed out that through the energies of the Red Cross and the War Relief Societies there was ample money being sent „ from time to time to provide for comforts for the sick arid wounded, but there was not sufficient money for the “well men.” The chairman was instructed to cable to Mr J. H. B. Coates, a member of the War Contingent Association, and find out what was really wanted by our men. The following cable was sent: “Regarding well man, patriotic societies want know il moneys are required for men on furlough in England and France. For regimental funds in France, to whom money should be sent—and if cajsh grants are made from funds to man in England—consult your committee, and Richardson cable report.” And now Mr Ooaten has replied as follows; “Money wanted for entertainment, etc., men on leave from Franco; General Richardson - approves this. Richardson says ample regimental funds to provide everything needed by men France and reserve units in England. Money should be sent War Contingent Association. . Suggest remittance £IOOO on account. .. J Association does not make cash grants to ; men.” It will be seen that the War Contingent Association are wanting £IOOO now to provide for the entertainment, etc., of the men on leave from France. Donations can be sent to Mr R. W. Shallcrass, the secretary of the Advisory Board, P.O. Box 695, Harcourt’a Buildings, Wellington. The chairman acknowledges receipt of £9O from Mr Martin Chapman, K.C.
