The. late shipmaster first came to the Dominion as master of various “crack" clipper ships, including, it is understood, several vessels flying the flap of •he. Shaw. Savill, and Albion Line. Shortly afterwards he entered the employ of the Union Company, and after Having command of several of that company’s vessels, was sent Home to bring out a hew steamer intended for the New Zealand trade. He was subsequently appointed Marine Superintendent in Wellington for the Union' Company, a position. ho occupied for many years. During hio stay here Captain Strang made many friends, and his strict sense of duty' earned him the respect of all whom he came in contact with in his official capacity. When the poet of Marine Superintendent at Dunedin fell vacant, Captain Strang was given the position, which he filled in an entirely capable manner, until he retired on superannuation, about four or five years ago. He was succeeded by Captain Colin Macdonald. After his retirement. Captain Strang went on a lengthy visit to the Old Country. Whilst he was staying in Wellington the late mariner was an elder in the Kent terrace Church. He was the first secretary of the New Zealand Shipmasters’ Association, formed during the big maritime strike.*' He was twiee married! and is survived by his 'second wife.
