COAL WORKERS’ BALLOT

WATEESIDERS AND THE “©HAH," The coal-workere’ department of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union will take a ballot to-day concerning proposals from the disputes committee with regard to working conditions and rates of pay in connection with the coal “grab.” Messrs J. C. Brew and G. Matthews will act as scrutineers. The ballot-boxes will be located at tbe X store, and. will be open from 7.30 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. today.' Tbe proposals submitted by the disputes committee are: 1. That in view of the difference that has arisen in connection with trimming coal to the “grab,” the committee agrees that a minimum of six men shall be employed trimming to each “grab,” and the men so employed shall be paid not less than seven hours’ pay, provided always that such men shall, if such “grab” ceases working, be agreeable to work any coal out of the hold in which they are working, or be transferred to any other hold, in such vessel. 2„ That four men may be employed on the wharf to one “grab.” When more than one “grab” is to be employed this decision may be re-opened. 3. That the rate of pay for trimming to the grab be 2s Id per hour ordinary' time, 3e 2d per hour overtime from 6 p.m. till 10 p.m., 3s od overtime from 10 p.m. till 8 a.m. The above agreement may be reopened by either party after one month from this jiate. ...
