HOROWHENUA NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Monday. A deputation from this district waited on the Palmerston North Hospital Board on Saturday and made satisfactory arrangements for joining-up with the Palmerston district. By severance from tho Wellington Board a very largo saving has been, effected to this district. At the monthly meeting of the Otaki Patriotic Society Mr W. Bums Smith was elected chairman in place of Air F. Horton Bright, resigned l . Air R. S'. Young was appointed to fill tlhe vacancy on the Horowhenua County Association. It was decided to assist the ladies of Wellington in holding a “violet day,” several in the room premising. to collect flowers and forward to the city. . , Tho tender of G. K, Douglas, Ltd., has been accepted by the Horowhenua County Council for the Kuku waterrace extension contract. Tho tender of Winter and Close has been accepted for various metalling contracts in the county, prices ranging from 4s 6d to 2s 6d per yard. Airs Luke, Atayoress of Wellington, will visit Otaki on Wednesday and give an address on patriotic matters. Airs E. T. Daniel, who has been in Otaki for several weeks past, returned ■to Wellington this morning. . The death occurred at Levin yesterday of Air Denis Glacken, at one time a well-known resident of Hautere. Deceased, who was 68 years, will bo buried at Otaki.
