COMMERCIAL CABLES By Telegraph—Pycss Association—Copyrighs Australian and N.Z Cable Association, (Received July 22, 5.15 j>.m.) LONDON. July 31. BUTTER- MARKET. Maximum butter prices have been fixed as follow Australian, salted 198 s nor ewt. unsalted 201 s; New Zealand, Halted 200 s per owt, nnsalted 2035. The butter market has been very firm, although prices were nominally unchanged pending the rise in the official maxima. Supplies, are short, all colonial lines being cleared, but there are several cargoes arriving. The trade, it is understood, has suggested to the Food Controller that he should release 100,000 boxes which have been commandeered, n-d thus prevent any undue increase in the prices. Many of the importers approve this proposal. The difficulty in securing tonnage would be thus avoided. SHORT-WEIGHT CHEESE. There are many complaints about short weight New Zealand oheeae, which is released bv the Government. This is due to its being too long in unsuitable storage. The Government allows 34 per cent, shrinkage off marked weights, hut the shortage is frequently 7 per cent., making it impossible to retail the cheese profitably at Is 4d per lb. FLOUR. Flour is quiet, owing to the increasing supplies of potatoes, of which there, is an excellent crop. It is therefore assumed that this will lead to a lessening demand for bread, and is likely to cause a considerable reduction in the consumption. especially as general dissatisfaction is expressed at the quality of bread now

being supplied. Australina flour is 78s; patents, 81s. GRAIN MARKETS. The market for wheat, oats, peas, and beans is inactive. Prices are unchanged. SUGAR. The price of standard granulated sugar is 46s 9d per cwt. FROZEN MEAT AND RABBITS. Market prices for all classes of frozen meat are unchanged. There is nothing doing in the frozen rabbits market. HEMP. "High point fair" graded hemp for July-September shipment is quoted at £92 per ton. RUBBER. Fine hard Para rubber is quoted at 3s 2id per lb; plantation, first latex crene 2s 7d; smoked ribbed sheet, 2s 6M. COPRA. South Sea lots of copra, in bags, on the spot, are quoted at .£43 5s per ton.
