PRICE OF BUTTER
“Fairplay” descanting on this subject, writes: —"I read in your paper of today from inquiries made that butter wap sold by a grocer in Courtenay place retail at is 5d per lb and another in Lambton quay at Is 6d. Thatris a reasonable price compared with what the residents of Shannon have to pay, viz.. Is 8d per lb. while there is a butter factory in Shannon. What are the Board of Trade doing to allow the storekeepers to drain every penny they can out of the public? Yet the MasseyWard Government set up Commissions, Efficiency Boards, Boards of Trade, etc., to inquire into the cost of living, but what is done? What do they care what tho poor public have to pay? The sooner another Government is put in power tho better it will bo for the public and the cost of living.”
