FARMERS’ INSTITUTE
FOUNDATION STONES TO BE LAID ON JULY 2Gth.
The ceremony of laying the foundation stones of the new building now being erected at the corner of reatherston and Ballance streets for tho Dominion Farmers’ Institute will take place to-morrow afternoon at 3 o’clock. Two stones will be laid, onion either side of tho mam entrance of the building. His Excellency tlie Governor-Gen-eral (Earl of Liverpool) and the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, have consented to lay the stones. Invitations arc being sent to leading citizens throughout the Dominion, and it is anticipated that there will be a largo gathering to celebrate this important step towards the advancement of agriculture in its widest and best sense.
The institute is destined to become the great centre of knowledge in regard te all agricultural matters, and in course of time, in conjunction with the Agricultural Department, it will accomplish for New Zealand what the great Agricultural Institute at Romt is doing for tho agricultural w-orld in collecting the fullest information on rural subjects. Tho institute will be the headquarters of various farmers' organisations and a means of co-or-dinating the various efforts made by them.
The building provides a large conference ball and committee rooms, besides office accommodation. In the ultimate scheme provision is made for a farmers’ club and private hotel, where visiting farmers may enjoy all the advantages, of social intercourse with their follows on iheir visits to the Empire City.
