MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., dealt with a lengthy list of police and by-law cases at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Thomas Meo was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon on charges of drunkenness and vagrancy. William Alfred Phillips was fined 10s, with costs 7s, on a charge of breaking his prohibition order. For drunkenness, Minnie Nelson was fined 20s, in default seven days’ imprisonment, and ■ Louisa Tierney fined 10s or three days. For failing to attend drill, Charles l\ r . .rah was fined 10s, with costs fs, .[■.’fault seven days’ military dotcuj.i; Arthur Hughes and Montague Francis Rowland each fined <6s, with costs 7s, or three days’ military detention. Tho inspector of -scaffolding proceeded against Richard William Martin for failing to comply with tho provisions of the Scaffolding Act, in that ho neglected to report an accident to the inspector. A fine of os, with costs, was imposed. Owners of stock who allowed their property to wander, contrary to tho by-laws, were dealt with as under: V. Shannon, fined 10s, with coats 7s; Norman Ellice, Ernest Hadley, James M. Bradshaw, A. Harris, W. Randell, and W. Stace, convicted and ordered to pay costs of the prosecution. Tho following were penalised, as mentioned, for breaches of the vehicular by-laws:—Frederick Beard, Louis Brough, James Wilson, Howard Nattrass, each fined 10s, with costs 7s; John Barker and Arthur Homer, each to pay costs, 7s. William,Henry Salter was fined 10s, with costs £l* I os, on a charge of breaking the by-law which specifies that drivers of vehicles must not pass a stationary tramcar while people are alighting from it.
