WORK FOR SICK & WOUNDED
ANOTHER “OUR DAY” APPEAL. His Excellency the Governor has received the following telegraphic; appeal from Field-Marshal His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught and the Marquis of Lansdowno, on behalf of the. Order of St. John of Jerusalem m Kurd and and the British Red Cross Society which His Excellency hopes will meet with the same generous response us did last year’s appeal:— ■‘lt becomes necessary for the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England and the British Red Cross Society to appeal once more to the generosity oi (their friends and supporters at Home and overseas tor funds to carry on their work of mercy tor the sick and wounded of His Majesty’s Forces. The joint committee has decided to make again such an appeal on October 18th, and we earnestly beg your assistance in making it known to the people of New Zealand. Our Red Cross work is now costing £BOOO per day, and increases rather than diminishes. Our help is given in every theatre of the war. and to troops from every part of the Empire, and will have to bo continued for some time even when victory has been achieved. Me are deeply grateful for the munificent help received from sympathisers in all parts of the world, and trust that with your assistance the appeal made on ‘Our Day’ will meet with a response which, will enable us to continue to do air that is humanly possible to lessen the sufferings of those on, whoso behalf we plead. Their Majesties the King and Queen and Her Majesty Queen Alexandra have graciously given us then pati onage and support.”
It is particularly requested that all sums collected in response to the above appeal ho forwarded to the Under-Sec-retnrr. Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, for transmission to the headquarters of the joint committee m London.
