SHORTAGE OF RENNET

DISCUSSED BY DAIRY FARMERS. (Frdm Our Special Reporter.) PALMERSTON N., June 20. The problem confronting dairymen in regard to the shortage of rennet nas the main feature about the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cooperative Rennet Company held on the Palmerston Show grounds to-night. Mr H. D. Forsyth, who presided, stated that a large amount of work had been done by the directors in solving the problem of the rennet shortage, but the difficulty had not yet been overcome and many cables had been exchanged with Mr Ellison, the National Dairy Association’s London representative, with a view to getting machinery and plant for the manufacture. The price for such a plant was so excessive, however, that it bad been decided to ship calf veils to Eng-' land for manufacture into rennet. A large number of Dominion factory managers had been making their own rennet for this season and the directors were getting into communication with these with a view to the manufacture of the whole of the rennet for the conpany. Negotiation* also had been. ei> tered into with a view to saving lambs’ veils for rennet making. These veils were of the same value, but owing to the .shortage of labour none of the freezing companies were inclined - to look favourably on the project. Messrs H. D. Forsyth, W. Fisher, and J. S. McKay were elected director*.
