UPPER HUTT TRAGEDY

MAN SHOOTS HIMSELF. A man named Thomas Brown, who had been residing with hia brother in Martin street. Upper Hutt, is reported to havo shot himself thcro yesterday morning. Ho left the house about half-past II o’clock and went into tho washhouse. Soon after a shot wan heard, and the unfortunate man wan found clasping a gun with the side of his head blown away. Brown was a single man, and had been suffering from insomnia. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. A man named Horace Levy, a whart labourer, residing in Wallace street, was admitted to tho hospital yesterday in a serious state. It appears that Levy had cut his throat. Dr EaUlke was called and ordered him to be sent to the hospital. Levy, who is a single man, aged . 24, had been drinking heavily of late, and this may have led to tho rash act. Upon inquiry at the hospital last night it was learned that ho was doing as well as could bo expected,
