FRENCH CLUB
Captain. Barclay presided over the French Club’s last gathering. In a preliminary address he made mention of a good number, of new members the club would ; have the pleasure of welcoming this session. The evening’s programme commenced with a musical item by Madame Deoha-net-Macintosh, followed by Madame Seville’s interesting reading about the late Lord Kitchener. Mr Lloyd George, and M. Briand; she then gave an amusing anecdote about the French General Palin. A general discussion followed according to the custom of the club. Next Mr Hodson sang, accompanied on the piano by Madame Dechanet-Maointosh. Mr Lattev ' continued the programme with a lengthy and instructive reading entitled "Saint-Miohel au Peril de la Mcr,” being an account of that wellknown ancient benediotine abbey and fortress built in the tenth century on the islet of Mont-Saint-Uichef {not fax from St. Malo on the north-west coast of Prance), which is in danger of being swallowed by the sea. A hearty.' vote of thanks was given to those who had carried out the programme and the evening concluded with the singing of "La Marseillaise” and "God Save the King.’
