WAIRARAPA NEWS
From Our Own Correspondent. MASTERTON, May 30.
The Wairarapa Rugby Union has given its secretary, Mr E. McKenzie, a bonus, in recognition of his services during the year, and re-elected him to the position. The union is indeed fortunate in having such a capable secretary to carry out the onerous duties 1 in connection with the position Mr McKenzie holds. The title of the best football referee in Kew; Zealand has been given to Mr E. McKenzie by those best able to j udge, and the popular "Scobie” is now specialising in another branch of the game—that of secretary. There .will be no senior football in Wairarapa this season, competition being confined to junior and third-class grades. The ‘Wairarapa Rugby Union has a credit balance of .£o9. A pleasing function took place on Saturday afternoon at Cosv Tea Rooms, when tho auctioneering firms of Dalgety and Co., W.P.C.A., and Wright-Slophen-son and Co. entertained Mr J. lorns, who recently retired from business. MT O. C. Cooper occupied the chair, and in a neat speech paid a high tribute to Mr lorns’"'personal qualities and business ability. On behalf of the gathering he presented Mr lorns with a valuable motoring coat. Messrs A. T. Spain, ami E. L. Holmwood spoke in a similar strain to that of Mr Cooper. Mr lorns suitably acknowledged tho honour done to him.
