HOSPITAL BOARD

COMMITTEES’ REPORTS

The regular meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, Mr IJ. Baldwin occupying the chair. The hospital committee reported tlio following statistics .in connection with the Otaki hospital and sanatorium; Otaki Hospital: 14 admitted, 16 discharged (3 died), 10 under treatment. Sanatorium: 9 admitted, 3 discharged, 3 to Cambridge. 19 under treatment.

The Charitable Aid Committee reported that estimates for charitable aid requirements for the ensuing year, 1917-18, which show a decrease of, roughly, £IOOO as compared with last year, have been presented _to and adopted hy the finance committee. The public health committee reported that during the month ended the 10th inst. the health inspectors had investigated infectious diseases cases as follows; —Scarlet fever 13, diphtheria 32, tuberculosis 8, enteric fever 4, cerebro-spinal meningitis 1, blood-poi-soning 2, granular conjunctivitis 2. There had been 78 disinfections, 70 sanitary inspections, and S 4 re-visits in connection with these oases. The finance committee reported that increases of salaries had been provided for in the estimates as follows for: Head office staff £B4, medical staff £6O, public health £lO, dental department £3S, dispensary £2l, porters .'and gardeners £32, nursing staff £lllO, and domestic staff £lOl Bs. The committee recommended: That the estimates and apportionment and levies for the year ending March 31st, 1918, be approved and submitted to the local authorities as per section 8 of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Aot, 1913; that the assignment of the leases S. Kirkcaldie to Mrs A, L. Pigges-Smith and the late Joseph Graham to Mrs H. A. Howe be agreed to, and that the seal of the board be affixed by Messrs Baldwin and Castle to such assignments; that the Westport Coal Company be granted a Glasgow lease for its leasehold at the corner of Tinakori road and Molesworth street at.the present rental; that the collectors’ pay be continued as at present, and that a gum of £25 had been placed on the estimates for bicycles for them.

expenditure on charitable aid account, including £544 capital outlay for the now isolation ward at Ohiro Home had been £13,695, a® against £13,946 for tho preceding year—.a decrease ol £351.
