PALMERSTON NOETH NOTES. Miss E. Kirk has (tone to Wellington for some weeks. , Mr and Mrs E. Grant Sim are spending Easter week in New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs C. I/ouisson have motored to Wanganui for the College sports. Captain Trask has rono to Nelson lor the Easter holidays. Mr E. A. Fuller has gone to Wellington to represent Messrs Bett and Bayly at the annual Cbachbuilders’ Conference. Trooper and Mrs Gordon Mason have some from Fealherston for a few days. Gunner and Mrs A. Brooker are staying with Mrs Holbeu for a short visit. Mr and Mrs Fowler and family have vone to Plimmertla for a fortnight Mrs W. Murdock and her sister. Miss R. Neilson, are spending the holidays in Conrad, of Island Bay, Weirington. io staying with friends in Falmto a large number of shops closing on Easter Saturday, Thursday was probably one of the busiest days Palmerston has had for a long time. Motor cars lined the Square an some ot the bus ; cr parts two and three deep, aM there was a very heavy pedestrian traiuc, to say nothing of the go-carts. Ail' the trains were crowded, standing room only being available on manyProbably the prospect of the new regulations encouraged people to take advantage of excursion trains and ticsetn while it was yet possible. However, the traffic waa particularly heavy, and it was quite a festive holiday crowd which thronged the railway station all day. A largo number of soldiers were also travelling, many being on final leave. The Hon. G. W. Eusseil paid w a brief visit on Wednesday to center with the Martin memorial committee about the proposed X-Eay Institute which it has been been decided will be the most fitting memorial that can be erected to the late Dr A. A. Martin, who was killed in France. The Minister was quite in accord with the proposal. Ihe question of a maternity ward in connection with the hospital was also dm cussed. The Minister explained the scheme which the Government hoped to bring into operation shortly in this conMr j! S Eyons and a party of bowlers motored from Stratford to attend the Easter tournament. Mrs Halliday, of Pahiatua, has returned homo after a brief visit to her parents. ... Miss M. Gibbs (Wellington! is staying in Palmerston on her return journey from Eotorua. Mrs John Cotter and Miss Jackson ore staying at the Club Hotel. Misses Betty and Dorothy Abraham have gone to the Wairarapa. A largo crowd of visiting bowlers are staying in Palmerston for the tournament, which commenced last Friday. The weather was ideal. The bowlers are being entertained as much as possible between whiles. Motor trips around the district, a concert on Saturday afternoon and a card tournament on Saturoay night being part of the programme.
