NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By "Tohunga.”) Nominations for the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting nave filled exceptionally well, considering the antidote administered by the opposition. One striking feature of the nominations is tho fact that the Karamu horses are not included. The nominations from the Hon. J. I). Ormond’s stable arrived too late to be considered. The entries for the Jumpers’ Flat Handicap, •which should be a popular race at this time of the year, number twentythree.

Some fair horses are engaged in this event, including Peronilla, Hon Eevo, Kl Gallo. Kurapni, and Blackall. There are many others of merit, and the handicapper will have a puzzle to place some of them.

The race for the youngsters, tho Plunket Nursery Handicap, has filled up, so far with twenty-nine, including the best in the country. If the pick of the nominations get near the starter there should be something doing.

Fifty-six horses have boeu nominated for the Thompson Handicap, which certainly shows a lack of enthusiasm on the part of sportsmen to go on with the game. Practically all of the best handicap horses in the country have beep nominated for the race, and no doubt there will bo a large number loft in after the weights are published.

The Silverstream Handicap has a nomination of twenty-six, but the field is ly no means a strong one.

A good number of horses has been, engaged for tho Railway Handicap, the field including Tete-a-teto, Croesus, Trials, Good Hope, Bimetcr, Koesia.ii, Panmure, Sweet Corn and the Williams horses from Gisborne.

Hero again the handicapper will have to out his thinking cap on good and hard. The nominations for the Tinakori Handicap of six furlongs, total thirtytwo. and a good field it is. so far.
