Tho fine record of the British Red Cross in connection with the present war, which was briefly disclosed in press cables last Monday, should assure tho public that all donations and assistance given to tho Red Cross aro utilised with , tho greatest caro and to the fullest possible extent in its mission of mercy. It 'Mis stated that the incomo of tho British Red Cross in tho -scoond year of tho war amounted to £3,064,232, and tho management expenses lust year were below ' d in tbo 81. ihe expenditure on hospitals has been £162,703, Rod Cross units £279,789, grants to auxiliary bodies £103,220. Tlie society possesses 20i2 ambulances, cars, wagons, and travelling soup kitchens, of which 1529 aro in Franco. This stands as a lesson in economical management to all similar philanthropic organisations, tho low cost of management, viz., 7<l in •the pound, is a record to be proud of. Lord Nortbcliffo, tho great war critic, writes: “The Red Cross is an organisation at whoso perfection I stand and marvel.” Wo have been advised that the funds raised by tko Red Cross art union of Taihapo will be cabled to tho ‘British Red Cross in England, and thus bo available for our boys in tbo coming great offensive. There aro 34 prizes in tbo Taihapo art union, 1000 sheep having been donated by Taihapo farmers for the purpose. Tickets are Is each.
