i'rom Our Own Correspondent. OTAKI, Frida}-. \ A burglar, evidently with n good knowledge of Otaki, has been making the rounds’of the 'township of late. His latest attempt at robbery was at Messrs Yen Ging and Co.’s, where on attempt was made an evening or so ago to force the door. The attempt failed, but one of the shop "wiiulo'vs was broken, but the thief was evidently frightened, and his haul consistedi of a few oranges only.' Two other business premises have also been entered and small amounts of cash abstracted. The attempt on. Yen Ging's is the third within a short period, in view of these attempts it behoves ' all householders to take precautions. Mrs W. J. How. who has been in an indifferent state of health for some time, was this afternoon taken', to the Otaki Hospital for the purpose of an operation. Lieutenant Tom Vincent, of Levin, is Bow on his way to New Zealand. Very little milk is now being dispatched to ,\VelHngton from Parapnraumn, compared with a few weeks ago. Only about 200 gallons is being sent daily. Considerable excitement occurred on the Ppekakariki Hill on Wednesday, when a largo motor car bound for Auckland caught fire. The occupants managed to subdue the flames, but, it is stated, left behind a part of their luggage, which contained .£IOO worth of jewellery and £SO in notes. On reaching Otaki they noticed their loss, and immediately returned, only to find no trace of the goods. Miss Draper, for soma time the popular postmistress at Te Horo, who was transferred to Wellington, has again been appointed to the charge of the former oflice- Miss Morse, who has been relieving has gone to Mnkuri. The funeral of the late Mr Wi Taylor, a well-known native of Paraparaurau, took place yesterday, when the Hev. Temuera Tokoiatua was the officiating minister. A cablegram was received by Mr and Mrs W. J. Howell, of Paraparaumu, yesterday stating that their sou "Hug,” of the Medical Corps, was seriously ill. He has been ill some time, but it was thought that ho was making a good recovery.
