The Wanganui Education Board wrote, stating it cailnot see its way to agree to the Land Board’s proposal to limit its right of occupation to the present school site (lots 10, of section 29U, and 2, of section 300, Palmerston North) to two years, and asked to be allowed to continue in occupation until the school is erected on the new site.—Resolved that the board adheres to the terms of its resolution of October 86th, 1916, but in the event of the Education Board requiring the land at the expiration of the term granted, this board'will grant an extension of the tenancy. Mr G. L. Winger asked for exemption from residence on section 12, block 6, Owhango township, for a further period, area 3 roods 7 .4 perches.—Granted twelve months’ exemption. > The ranger recommended that Crown lands section 75, town of Livingston (13 acres), bo leased to Mr W. J. Woolford from year to year, at an annual rental of 15s per acre.—Approved. v The Waimarino County Council ap plied to have the thirds from, sections 12. 13, 16, 19 and 23, block 10, Manganui, hypothecated as security for the Hoihenga Bridge loan (£300), 1913 Approved. The county clerk, Mastertdn County, wrote, stating that his council regrets it cannot see its way to accept the proposed apportionment of the cost of the river protective works fronting Education Reserve section 101, block 1, Otahoun. —Resolved that tJie board declines to increase its contribution to the cost of the work.—Approved. It was resolved to approve the pay-

ment of accrued thirds as follows; Kairanga County Council, £220 4s. Messrs J. E. J. and P. P- Monaghan, who hold sections 55 and 109, town of Newman (education reserves) in ons lease, applied to subdivide the holding, and transfer section 109 to E. G. PDowsett. —Approved. 1 Air C. Wilson, selector of section 62, block 5, ICarioi S.D., whote that he had returned from the front disabled with rheumatism, and, being unable to do anything with the section, wished to give it up.—Forfeited. A schedule of education reserve leases, expiring on Juno 30th next, showing the rentals at which the rangers recommended renewals should be granted, was submitted.- Approved as per’ schedule on records. Tho Onehunga Sawmilling Company, Ltd. applied for an extension ofterm of its milling license over sections 1,3, 4,6, block 12, Kaitieke S.D,—lt was resolved to refuse the application for an extension of term, as tho occupiers of sections 1, 3 and 4 are desirous of obtaining their licenses and improving their sections. Mr Donald MacDonald applied for a lease of part of section 38, block 12, Mount Cerberus, 2a lr 09p.—It was resolved to grant him a temporary license for a period of five years under section 130 of the Land Act, 1908, at a. rental of £1 per annum, subject to the usual conditions. A report was received from tho ranger as to improvements on section 21, block 12, Belmont, la Or 37p, Paparangi Settlement.- —It was resolved. to re-offer this section on renewable lease at annual rent of £8 6s 6d, with value of improvements reduced to £250. In continuation of the board’s resolution of February 22nd, 1917, it was resolved to weight section 54, block 12, Mount Cerberus, when offered for cash, with £l7O 5s for improvements. Mr Thomas Butler applied for a lease of about 258 acres of Crown land between railway and road north of section 2, block 16, Manganui S.D. — It was resolvod to grant him a temporary license to occupy under section 130 of the Land Act, 1968, for a period of five years, at a rental of £5 per annum, subject to the usual conditions.

The Commissioner reported that section 2, block: 1, Horopito Township, had been inspected by Mr Georgetti and himself, particularly with regard to the improvements thereon.—lt was resolved to withdraw it from lease for the present. A report was received from the ranger on P.E.R. 1, block 16, Levin Township, Oa lr 32p,—It was resolved to re-offer the lease by auction for a period of twenty-one years, with perpetual night of renewal for further successive tennis of. twenty-one years under the Education Deserves Act, 1908, at an upset annual rent of £2, weighted with £2O for improvements. It was resolved to cancel Mr Broadbelt’s tramway license through section 24b, block 8, M-akotuku, as on 31/12/’l7. Mr J. Diamond’s application to be allowed to select additional land at the back of his section 14, block 7, Makuri S.D., was reconsidered.'—lt was resolved te adhere to the previous resolution of February 22nd. A report was received from the ranger on section 112, block 16, Makuri Township, 0a 3r lip.-—lt was resolved to offer for cash by public auction at an upset price, of £l7. , A report from the ranger was received on section 140, block 10, Makuri Township, 0a 3r llp.xlt was resolved to allow the present lessee to remain in occupation - under a temporary permit from year to year from July Ist, 1917, under section 130 of the Land Act, 1908, at a rent of £1 per annum, subject to the usual conditionsA report was received from the ranger on sections 41, 42, 43, block 8, 50, 61, and 56, block 0, Makuri Township.—lt was resolved to offer them for cash by public auction at upset prices respectively of £6, £6, £l3, £9, £B, and £lO. A report was received from the ranger on section 10, Pongaroa Suburbs, 5a lr 04p.—It was resolved to offer for cash by public auction at upset price of £56. Dr C. E. Anson, lessee of run 32, blocks 6,7, and' 8, Tiriraukawa, submitted a plan of the subdivision of his run into two portions, 2000 acres and 900 acres respectively, for the consideration and approval of the board in terms of section 21 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1914.——Resolved that the run be inspected as to scheme of subdivision, and providing legal road access, a fresh valuation to be made by Valuation Department.

Mr W. Cowem applied for a permit to split green kaikawhaka on Crown land between Overhead bridge and Waimarino railway station, where he is now cutting dead timber. It was resolred to grant the permit, at the same rate of royalty as he is paying "for other timbers under his present permit. '

With reference to the board’s resolution of November 2Sth, 1916, postponing consideration of method of dealing with certain sections in Gladstone block, it was resolved to offer the undermentioned sections in block 12, 11anganui, under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908, as second-class laud at the prices shown: —Section 2, 200 acres, 20s per acre; section 3, 150 acres, 20s per acre; section 4, 200 acres, 40s per acre; section 5,195 a Ir 2op, 60s per acre; section 7,97 a3r 28p, 40s per acre; section 11, 99a 3r 32p, 40s per acre; section 13, 99a 3r, 40s per acre; section 15, 196 a 2r 30p, 20s per acre; It was further resolved to cancel Mr E. P. Eiligate's permit to occupy parts of sections 5 and 7, block 12, -Vlanganui S.D., as on Juno 30th, 1917, and allow him the right to remove his improvements or dispose of them.

It was resolved to reoffer the remaining unsold sections in Mawa/hakona township for cash by public auction at the upset prices last fixed.

It was resolved to offer the available unsold sections in blocks 5, 10 and 11, Baurimu township, for cash by public auction at the late upset prices. Mr R. J. Cowem applied for a permit to occupy temporarily sections 1/11, 13, 14, block 11, Raurimu township. It was resolved to advise, him of the steps now being taken for their disposal, and to offer him a permit to occupy temporarily from year to year under section 130 of the Land Act, 1008, at a rent of £1 10s per annum, subject to the usual conditions, and to a proportionate rebate in rent if any of the sections should he purchased and consequently excluded from the permit. Mr T. Butler applied for a temporary lease of sections 1 to 8, block 18 (9a lr lop), and of sections 1 to 6, block 16 (7 acres) in Horopito township. . It was resolved to grant him a permit to ocdupy these sections tem-porarily-from year to year under section 430 of the Land Act,* 1908, at a rent of £2 per annum subject to the usual conditions, and to his sowing, free of cost, the burnt area if it is

found possible to provide him with the grass seed. ' Tenders for grazing the unallotted sections in the Tiraumea Settlement were accepted as under: —Lot 1 (sections 6, 7 and part 10),K. E. Mceeh, £6l per month ; lot 2 (part section 12 and section 11), Chas. Cross, £3O per month; lot 4 (section 1), 11. McGarry, £25 per month; lot 6 (section 16), J. W. Smith, £23 10s per month.
