PERJURY CHARGE
RUA CASE ECHO AT HAMILTON. Press Association. HAMILTON. March 28. The trial of the native Tutara Kaiuka, on a charge of perjury, was continued in the Supreme Court to-day before Air Justice Hosking. Air Sclwvn Alays appeared for the Crown and Air London for the prisoner. Evidence for the defence was adduced in the direction of showing that Constable Skinner fired the first shot at Rua’s settlement 0 n April 2nd, 1916. A native witness swore that the police had interviewed him and endeavoured to induce him to discard his lino of evidence relative to Pukepuke lifting the gun and to seek a fresh lino of evidence. Further questions were being asked when the judge ruled them out as irrelevant to the present case.
Mr Mays said be did not deny that there was an interview hv Senior-De-tective Cassells, but ho denied the complexion put upon it by Mr Lundon. The statement was absolutely unconnected with this or the other cases, and the interview in question bad been held for an entirely different purpose.
