MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE CASES. Mr L. G. Reid. S.M.. dealt with the police cases at the Magistrate s Court yesterday. Edward James Sheard was charged: (1) That on or about December Ist last at Tauherenikau camp he forged a redirection order purporting to be signed by Mrs Vine Sheard at Christchurcfi, with the 'intention that it should be acted upon by the Postal Department as genuine; (2) in December last at Christchurch did steal three letters, the property of Lavinia Jane Sheard; and (3) in December last at Christchurch did wilfully delay four letters, the property of Lavinia Jane Sheard, of Christchurch, by forging an order »o the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch to re-direct letters to an address in Wellington. . _ , On the application of Detective-Ser-geant Cos, accused was remanded to Christchurch. Thomas William Gillard was charged with the theft at Auckland on March 6th last of a wallet containing surgical instrument valued at £4, the property of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co. Accused was remanded till to-day, as there is a possibility of other charges being laid against him. A young native named Tonga O Carroll was remanded to appear at New Plymouth on a charge that on September Ist last at Bell Block he forged a document purporting to be an order for the payment of money, and to have been signed by Kenneth Corbett and Tonga O’Carroll, to wit, a n order upon one Humphries, for the payment by him of £2 to one Jones. Lottie Webb was . fined 40s, in default seven days’ imprisonment, for using obscene language, and convicted and discharged for drunkenness.^ For drunkenness Annie Maud Sales was fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ gaol, while several first offenders were leniently dealt with. Thompson was ordered to pay Agnes Mottram £2 12s by April 10th or serve three days' imprisonment. DEFENDED CASES. ' Lengthy evidence was heard in tbs civil dispute William Hall r. Henry Box a claim for £35 in respect to the sale of a horse. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £25 with costs. Mr P. W. Jackson appeared for plaintiff and Mr H. F. O’Leary for defendant. In the defended dispute John Rainbow Stansell v. Elizabeth Drew, a claim for £7 3s lid. judgment was given for plaintiff for £3 and costs. Mr 0. C. Mazengarb appeared for plaintiff and Mr A H. Hindtnarsh for defendant.
