BERLIN FOOD KITCHENS
Serving food to large numbers at■ * time is now the custom in Berlin. The municipal central kitchens serve luncheons to 80,000 school children at the noon hour. In addition there arc thousands of workmen who are fed at noon and at night. Aside from these, WO.OOO Itinch baskets and coffee cans are filled daily with food for bank clerks factory employees, institutes and hospitals.. According to official figures, 400,000 persons get the food in Berlin daily. The number is said to be increasing. _ ' The food can be had ar a _ slightly cheaper 1 rate, and many families are taking advantage of it. Housewives have found that instead of buying food from shopkeepers to be ■ served at the home table it is a matter of economy to take advantage of the big central kitchens which the municipality has provided.
