CAMP NOTES

TEENTHAM.

The 27th Infantry Reinforcements and 28th Specialists are encamped at Peatherston. They went over the Eimutakas by train on Friday. • Railway concession tickets arc to be issued to members of the reinforcements who will be permitted to visit thenhomes at Easter. The Camp Commandant has received and acknowledged gifts of cake, eggs, and toothbrushes from Mrs Meyers, and three teapots, twelve trays, four cushion covers, twenty-five face cloths, and six feeding cups from Mrs Luke. Lieutenant E. L. Renton has reported at the camp for duty. He has been posted to the Dental Corps. The following returned soldiers have been posted to the 30th Reinforcements: Sergeant-Majors T. G. Hinton (Main Body), E. S. Peed (6th Regiment W.M.R.), J. W. V. Masterman (N-Z-MJE Brigade Headquarters), and IV. Ricketts (W.M.8.). TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS.

The Camp Commandant (LieutenantColonel H. E. Potter) has approved of the following temporary appointments:— Headquarters Staff.

Camp Military Police—To 1)6 lancecorporal, Privates A. W. Kitteridge, H; Martin, M. Hunt, P. Horan. T. Leslie, J. Close, and W. Graham. 27th Reinforcements.

D Company—To be sergeant. Corporals T. L. Campbell, J. C. H. Coyler, X? L. Egorton, T. H. Melrose, W. H. Ready, R. H. Stott, J. A. Taylor, and W. Mclntyre; to be corporal. Privates G. H. Page, R. G. B. Sinclair, J. P. Stack, and J. P. Puller; to be lancecorporal, Privates M. M. Thompson, A. B. Mong, E. McLean, W. S. R. Hazelwood, J. P. Johnston. M. Jamieson, A. S. Bell, R. Qreenway, J. E. Galloway, S. L. Geerin. C. H. Lewis, and H. Rowley.

E Company—To be sergeant. Corporals H. E. Le Cren, F. W. Lang, B. P. Cahill, E. E. Hobart, H. L. Massey. ,T.. H. Ashton, B. M. Winter, and F. England. In future N.C.O.’s who arrive with reinforcement drafts holding appointments as lance-corporals or acting bombardiers will relinquish their appointments on arrival in. the United Kingdom or Egypt. There being no such rank as "ser-geant-instructor” in the Expeditionary Force, those holding in New Zealand will take up that of sergeant when joining the Force. On arrival at the base they will revert to the ranks if there are no vacancies into which they can bo absorbed. Second Lieutenant L. S. Ashton has arrived at Trentham and joined the 30th Eeinforcements. Captain D. V. Donaldson is joining the N.Z. Dental Corps in Egypt. Private M. Cruncher, has been appointed quartermaster-sergeant to the Q.M. Store, and Privates J. B. Baker and M. J. Bennie lance-corporals in the Dental Corps.

FEATHERSTON. A regulation has been issued permitting a returned soldier who rejoins the Expeditionary Forces to apply for a direct commission, or to join an N.C.O. class. Previously a returned soldier had no option hut to return to the front in the same rank as when he first went away. The Camp Commandant has received a gift of nine sacks of pumpkins from Mr Hunter, of Waipukurau. Second Lieutenant E. B. Davison has been transferred from 26th Mounted Rifles to 2Sth Specialists Company. TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS. Lieutenant-Colonel N. P. Adams (Camp Commandant) has approved of the following temporary appointments: 23rd Reinforcements. C Company—To be corporal, LanceCorporal W. B. Gibson; to bo lancecorporal, Privates E. A. Fitzgerald and T. H. Lasserne. 26th Reinforcements. G Company—To be lance-corporal. Privates A. Anderson, E. M. Cummins, A. M. Mackintosh, T. H. A. Richards, F. J. Stewart, J. Brook, L. A. Hulston, G. Ollivier, and S. J. de L. Russell. 28th Reinforcements. D Company—To be corporal. Private C. G. Smith and Lance-Corporals J. 1. Mosley and A. E. Watt. Mounted Rifles—To be sergeant. Corporals Q. Sonntag. D. D. Simpson, G. C. C. Davis, and E. C. Boulton; to be corporal. Corporals A. A. W. Avery, S. C. Harris, A. R. Bull, and J. P. McMastei. Medical Corps. To be lance-corporal—Privates T. H. Bassett, B. Hallett, and A. E. Collins. The appointment of the following probationary corporals in the 30th Mounted Rifle’s to the rank of corporal has been confirmed :—Corporals A. T. Andrews, P. C. Beard, E. R. Martin, G. B. Young, A. E. Bartlett, F. J. Cramp, and J. L. Nash. Sergeant B. T. Elsmorc, 25th Mounted Rifles, has been transferred to Mounted Details, and Sergeant F. H. Green has been appointed sergeant-major in the 2Sth Specialists. Corporal J. Forbes, of E Company, 24th Reinforcements, has been made lance-sergeant, and Lance-Corporal A. B. Scott, of G Company, corporal.
