TIMBER EXPORT DUTY

A proposal to placo an export duty on white pino was raised at a sitting of the Conciliation Council, in the timber workers’ dispute. It was resolved : “That the Conciliation Council views with alarm tho proposed duty on white pine, and strongly urges that the Government, before giving effect to tho proposal, should afford employers and tiatber workers an opportunity of submitting their side of the question.” It was stated that the imposition of the duty would mean the closing down of a number of milk.
