PROTECTION OF ANIMALS
Tho fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held Jast evening, Mr F. Meadowcroft presiding. Tho inspector’s report mentioned that 13 cases of cruelty had been attended to, two cases having been taken to court. The following subscriptions were reported : —Mrs Atkin, £1 Is; Messrs J. Mcliwan and Co., and McLeod, Weir and Hopkirk, 10s 6d each; Messrs Roberts (N.Z.), Ltd., Dr W. M. Ross, Mrs AY. M. Stand, 10s each; Mr A. Richardson, 6s 6d; small amounts, 6s 3d; Mesdames Camina, Barthorp, Dr Harding, Herron, Messrs R- Brewer, Alcock and Co., Quick, AA'ard and Wylie, Howard and Tilyard, Liebeizet, F. L. Simpson, E. Johnston and Co., T. A. AA'clls, Wellington Timber Co.. Rev. Father Lane, A.E.R., Mowbray Bros., ,5s each; Miss Crawford, 3s ; Alesdames J. F. Sharpe, Silby, Sladden, Huso, Miss Slater, Messrs C. AY.
