IN TROTUZ WOODS AND HEIGHTS
BRUSILOFF RENEWS HIS OFFENSIVE TWO GERMAN BATTALIONS WIPED OUT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and Non Zealand Cable Association. (Received January 25, 8.10. p.m.) PETROGRAD, January 24. The lull in General Bruslioff’s front, due to bad weather, has been broken by a sharp battle in the woods and heights surrounding the Trotuz river. The Russians commenced the battle on Sunday by a bayonet charge. The fiercest fighting continued all night long. The Gorman 225th Division, being experienced soldiers, offered the most stubborn resistance. The Russians finally advanced two versts, capturing an important defence work. Two German Battalions were wiped out, losing 2000 men in addition to 400 prisoners and ten machine-guns.
