TREES OVERHANGING FOOTPATHS

Times.'’ Sir, —I read in your columns some days ago that the Petono Borough Council, at its meeting, had considered the question of trees from gardens overhanging the foot-paths. 1 think it would be, advisable if the City Council would take some steps in the same direction. It is almost disgraceful' in some of the streets in the residential parts of the city that trees and fences are never attended to, but are allowed to overhajin- tho fences to the discomfort of pedestrians. 1 have frequently had my hat nearly brushed off my liead by bunging branches, and during raining days one has to keep an umbrella in such a nosition to avoid being caught in the branches of trees that the consequences aro that it is of no use. I have had occasion to help little girls, returning homo from school, disentangle their hair from protruding branches. I think, sir, that residents should be compelled to keep their trees and hedges trimmed so as not to overhang the footpath. Should I at anytime have my umbrella or my wife’s hat destroyed owing to this nuisance I shall not hesitate to seek redress, as ladies are, or may be, principal sufferers.
