POLICE AND CIVIL CASES. . Mr D. G. A. Cooper. S.M., presided over yesterday’s sitting of the.criminal court, and Mr W. G. Eiddell, S.M., presided over the civil sitting. ■ Harry Thomas Hunt. 19 vears of age; pleaded guilty to absconding from the Burnham Industrial School on December 18th last. He was ordered to be returned to the school. /

Turupu, although in .the dress of : a male, was very feminine in appearance. He stood like a lance, lend did not appear to realise his position. Sub-Inspector MacKinnon informed the bench that there was some doubt as to the soundness of Turupu’e mind, and on his (the subinspector's) suggestion, defendant Was remanded for medical examination. Robert Ralph Carr, seaman on the Corinthio, appeared on remand to answer a charge of stealing surgical instruments, medicine and foodstuffs from the Coriufhde, valued at <660, the property of tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. The theft was alleged to have been committed by the accused' on December 30th. Mr P. W. ’ Jackson, who appeared for Carr. called evidence to show i that on the evening previous to the theft Carr, in company with other members bi the crew, had been drinking, and when accused arrived on board his vessel he was more or less in a state of intoxication. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. In the judgment summons case Fitzgerald and Pearce v. Thomas Tyree, the defendant was ordered to pay the sum of JO3 3s to the plaintiffs at the rate of 10 i per month, the first payment to be made on March Ist next. The same defendant was ordered to pay to Jas, Smith, Ltd., the sum of £4 11s 3d fiv monthly instalments of 10s. the first payment to be made on Maroh Ist. Julius de Silva, who did not appear; was ordered to pay J 64 5s to, Gordon Saywell Gapper on ,or before February Bth, in default four days' imprisonment. W J. Mayor was ordered to pay to p. D. Prank Bradley, a claim for £3 16s and possession of a tenement, judgment was given for plaintiff for the full amount with costs ■£! 19s, and a warrant for possession issued, returnable on February 13fch. • Clara Louise Horner claimed from W. G. H. Baillie the sum of £i 10s, together with possession of tenement.
