CONCLUDING DAY’S EVENTS

CHORTLE TAKES THE CHIEF EVENT

Ths Wellington. Racing Carnival was brought to a doss yesterday in glorious weather. A good attendance patronised the final day's racing, the totalisator figures proving that everyone had not been disappointed on their previous visits to the course- Considering the fact that yesterday was an off day and that there was not a great muster of soldiers, the attendance was' extremely satisfactory. A number of the events were won on the post, which says a great deal for the handicapping, and the good fields accepting is another point in favour of Mr Bert Coyle. Several of the class horses were scratched yesterday, the most noticeable being Desert Gold. Her connections thought that the second string of the stable was sufficient, and so Egypt stayed in, which was unfortunate for the public, a number of whom had made a point of attending to see the . champion filly run. There were some doubts as to whether the totalisator results for the meeting would equal last year’s figures, but there was a surplus of £IB2B. Last year the machine handled .£124,020. and this year the figures were £125,857 10s. The amount handled for the day was *£40,001 10»Following are the results: — WALLACEVILLB WELTEE HANDICAP.
