From Our Own Correspondent. MASTERTON, January 14. . Mr H. Morrison, of Awatoitoi, is at present,an inmate of a private hospital, where he will undergo an operation. Mr and Mrs E. Foss, of Fernridge, were tendered a farewell "social", on Thursday by the settlers of the district, and presented with an' oak roller-top desk and an armchair. The Rev. Father Ryan, of Riverview College, Sydney, is at present conducting a retreat at St.' Bride's Convent, Masterton. Mrs H. Morrison has been selected as the candidate of the Masterton A. and P. Association, Farmers' Union, and Masterton Racing Club as the Northern Queen in the Friendly ties' Queen of the Carnival competition. Mrs Hart, of Carterton, wife of Lieutenant-Colonel Hart, is to be asked to stand as the soldiers! Queen. At the motor-cycle sports of the -Wairarapa Motor Cycle Club yesterday, on the Taratahi racecourse,, the various events were won as follows: Five-mile novice race, S. Anderson (Carterton); five-mile open handicap, B. Crawley (Carterton); ten-mile championship, A. Anderson (Palmerston North) 1, R. J. Jones (Palmerston North) 2; five-mile open handicap (members of Wairarapa Motor C#cle Club only), B. Crawley 1, A. Anderson 2; fifteen-mile handicap, P. Coleman (Wellington) 1, B.
