In the Aorangi Trial Plate, the first event on the programme, twelve of the twenty acceptors went to the post, and a better conditioned lot of maidens would be hard to find. When the barrier roso Interlude got a four lengths break on the field and maintained the advantage to the end, winning easily from Tango and Bjorneborg. . Poheko ran a good race for about four furlongs, but had then had enough. Trickery and Ccial King were badly left. Aster, King Chiara, Pursefiller, India and Papauira were the only withdrawals in. the Flying Stakes, having fourteen to face the starter. Postillion looked a bit on the big side and should be ail the better for the race. Denise Orme, Orleans and Want delayed the start for some time. When the tapes flew up Happiness went to the • front and led to the, top stretch. , Here Postillion began, to move np and looked to have a chance at the turn into the straight, but the leaders ran wide at the bend and Heather and Orleans got through on the rail*. Half-way down the straight several appeared to have chances, but Heather, bard ridden, lasted long enough to win by a head from, Coropett. Orleans was the most unlucky horse in the race. After getting away badly ami making up all the lost ground he. was again blocked in the straight and did very well to finish third. Black Lupin was fourth. Want and Ardent being the last two to finish. The St. Andrew’s Handicap field looked very well in the birdcage. Montana was made favourite with Imarose next in demand. When the barrier rose Montana and Gold Fran were quickest to find their feet, but before the field had gone far. Combustion quickly followed by Imarose, with Square Deal and Maniaroa in hat orac l, wc,e at the head of affairs, wth the others well strung out. Passing the stand the first time . Combustion was ’oading Imarose and Square Deal, with Maniar'a lying handy. The former continued lo make the pace along . ! he busk stretrb, but at the straight entrance Square Deal and Maniaroa went to the front. Half-way down the straight the latter forged ahead and went «n to win by halt a length. Square Deal being a length and a half in front of imarose, with Combustion. close up fourth. The disappointment of the race was Goldstream. He was sent out fourth favourite and had a good run all the way but finished last. Tangihou (winner of the New Zealand Cup) looked very well, but was second to last favourite on the 'machine. In the Spring Hurdles Parawanui quickly went to the front and led the field for the first mile. Passing the stand the first time the order was Parawanui. Glenorchy, Flingot, and Master Strowan. The latter went to the front four furlongs from homo and was never headed, winning easily by four lengths, the same between second and third. Fagot was last, her rider having broken a stirrup iron in the chrly part of the race. . , ~ Out of the sixteen engaged !n the Wbituna Hack Hurdles, eleven went to the post. St. Gate was made favourite with White Plume and Agatha Green next in demand. When thedapes went up st. Gate was first to show out. but was soon joined by Wladian. These two made the running the first time round, but the latter struck the fourth fence hard and fell over the rails into the course proner. This left Rt. Gate at the head of the field with Enworth and Kanwairoa catching her fast. The three took the last fence almost torether. and the latter, who had been fending splendidly throughout, drew away and won by three lengths, a. head between second and third. St. Gate

was fourth and Rougora was tbo last .lo finish. Tho • contestants for the Tenth.' Teilding 'Stakes-were-a particularly fine looking lot. Bimetor,' the favourite, looked a picture, but. did not get too good a run during tho race; however, Uo was finishing as ell and will Biiow more to advantage' over six ‘ furlongs. There was .a lot of delay at the start, caused through - Elving ' Spur refusing • to fare tho barrier.- • The - delay * caused 1 some of the two--yoar-olds -to get - fractious, and Tino Atua broke through tho three times. Flying Spur and lino A.tua wore first away, but the former was done with after going a. couple or furlongs. Tino Atua led into the straight with Egypt and Nystad handy. A gm«d finish down tho straight resulted in Egypt gaining the verdict from NyaUid b y" half a length, with Tino Atua a neck away third. Bimetor was fourth and Roekbound last.' For tho Ktwitca -Welker seventeen faced the starter. Lady Amai 'Dot-iey) being a pronounced ' favourite,' A loc of delay was caused at the post, Master Lupin and Pursefillor djeing tho worst offenders. Tho* latter was eventually sent, to tho outside, but Oliver anticipated the of the .barrier, and with Lady Amai led out of the straight with Crawford and Austin lying next. This order was maintained to tho home turn, whero the field closed up. At the distance, ’Ladv Amai looked all oaci a winner, but Deeley appeared to ease hia mount, and Crawford, wooing with, a lato run, lasted long enough to win by a long neck. Pui'seßller was Kali o’length further back and Jem close tip fourth. Crawford, tho winner, paid tho biggert dividend of the day. • .The concluding .event, the' Fit?™? Hack, brought out the biggest, field of tho dav, twenty lining up to start. Red Ribbon was a slightly better favourite than Sedd-cl-Babr. The start was a good one. Mystified, Deviation, . Red Ribbon and Martyress being for most of tho journey. Tho field wev„ strung out over 'about fifty yards along tho back stretch, but the top Black f%^AvafdCov^‘ J MTsUficd Ru£ir clear of tho field when heads were turned for home an maintaining this advantage .to be M won easily. Lady Daylesford was “al a "ength in .front of Black Ada with Sodd-cl-Bahr fourth and Bivouac lust.
