HUTT COUNTY
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
Tho monthly meeting of tho Hutt County Council was held yesterday. There were present: Councillors W. J. Howell (chairman), J. Wakeham, W. Gailoway, T. Edwards, J. Whiteman, and M. Welch. A letter from the Railway Depart- 1 ment regarding the erection of warning boards over public crossings was referred .to the inspector of works, with power to act. It was resolved to support a proposal by the Christchurch City Council to have the affixing of identification signs on the back and front of motor cycles made pompulsory.
The chairman’ reported that the overdraft stood at £5304 13s sd.
In connection with the new Akatarawa bridge, it was decided, on the motion of the chairman, to raise a 10 per cent, additional loan to complete the work. After some discussion, it was decided that the Pukerua-Paekakariki deviation be completed as soon as possible.
Accounts amounting to £756 0s lOd were passed for payment. The engineer reported that the approaches to the new Akatarawa ferroconcrete bridge bad been completed, also the .metalling; of the bridge, at a total cost of £B2 12s 2d. . The damage done by flood - water to the deviation of the Hutt-Waikanae road had been made good, and a repetition of the damage was made very remote by the erection of another concerto culvert through the embankment at a different angle to the first one. The continuation of the road through the Belmont Park Syndicate’s property near Belmont had been completed to tho engineer’s satisfaction, and he recommended that the deviation be accepted.—The report and recommendations were adopted.
