DEAD & WOUNDED SOLDIERS

PARCEL OF CLOTHES AS FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT. FrMB Association, AUCKLAND, October 12. Mrs Melvine, a resident of Greenlane, received a bundle yesterday containing the effects of Charles Gordon Campbell, her, nephew, who enlisted with - the 2nd Reinforcements. The bundle contained a tag intimating that the property was that of a deceased soldier. This was the first intimation she had of the lad’s death, though she was next-of-kin., the mother and father being both dead. She suffered a terrible shock. NELSON CASE WITH HAPPIER SEQUEL. Press Association. NELSON, October 12. With reference to a resident of Greenlane receiving a bundle, of a deceased soldier’s clothing, a Nelson parent, J. Garvin, received a similar parcel last week. Replying to inquiries, the Defence Department stated that it was possible the soldier had been wounded and removed to a hospital ship. Yesterday the Garvins received a letter from their son to that effect.
