A Wanganui boy, Private Trask, writing from the hospital ship Dongola, refers to the death of Colonel Malone. He states that the Wellington Battalion was engaged in desperate work on Hill 971. The battalion had rushed the height on Saturday, August Bth, and had entrenched, but at a terrible c<jst. All the officers except two were either killed or wounded, Colonel Malone being killed by a shell. The writer also refers to Colonel Malone’s work at Quinn’s Post. “We were in charge of Quinn’s Post, a very delicate part of the old firing line, but our Colonel was the boss :; dog of if, and his good work made it into something like an old man’s homo after we had occupied it a month.” For Children'* Hacking Cough at nighi.
