For the week ended October 9th, ninety-seven- applications were made .to i the local office of the, labour Depart- i meni for employment. Of this number ninety-two men ' were placed—eightyfour in Government and eight in- private work. ' Practically. the whole of the men placed were sent to .work in, connection with the military camps at Trentham, Upper Duttj and Tauherenikau. The five for whom employment is .still required either will not leave town or are not fitted for heavy work. .
