The nominations for the Wellington spring meeting, although slightly under those of last season in the aggregate, must be considered very eatislactory. The nomination of Warstop is missing from the Champion Plate, which is somewhat disappointing, as it was considered that an opportunity would havo been taken Ho -meet Chortle and Balboa, who defeated the Martian marc in tha Awapuni Cold Cup in April last- On that occasion it was stated that War-step-was .suffering from a cold, a circumstance that was put down as responsible for her not running uji to expectations. The lateness of the hour no doubt accounts for l the nominations being somewhat less, and on this account there will he ‘probably fewer withdrawals when the handicaps are announced.

The. time taken to do the mile and a quarter: was only 3-ssec under i that of Ogior, in tho Consolation Handicap at the Wellington summer' meeting, when such horses as Sea Pink, Indigo, Sinapis, Kilrain. Byron, and Marshal McDonald took part in the event. , The success of Eoumania in the Waipatu Hack Handicap vat „ Hawke’s . Bay was well deserved. Tho Charlemagne horse has been a trier for some lima without success, and has improved since ho was seen at Otaki in the Dominion Day Handicap.
