VETERANS’ HOME

ANNUAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS.,

The annual general meeting of:”, the * Board of Governors of i the Veterans' Home. Auckland, * was held in- the Cabinet ■ Room, Government Buildings, at 10.45 a.m. yesterday.' His Excellency the Governor presided. The annual report-end balance-sheet; for the year ended June 30th, 1915,. were read and adopted,, and the balance-sheet and report of the Homo ■ were received and read. The capital fund has during the past year increased’ from £10.140 to £10,440. For the first time since the inception of the Home no assistance has been received from any source outside the annual subscriptions, but’ this is only what could bo expected seeing that the proceeds of all entertainments are going to the patriotic funds. Thirtynine’veterans are now being maintained In the Home. There arc- three of the original member* of the .Home remaining. Among and in possession of; the Resident Veterans j are three Crimean medals,, three. Turkish, i four Indian Mutiny,, one Afghan, one Kandahar Star, one Khed’ve Star and twenty-eight New Zealand medals, i Building repairs and renovations ‘have been carried out and the drainage of the Home is satisfactory; the cost of the work done, was .£144. His Excellency the Governor was reelected president,- the Hon. Edwin Mitchelson was re-elected Ihon. treasurer and Colontl B. J. Collins, C.M.G.; was re-elected hen. secretary. Other officer-bearers were elected as follow s—‘Board of Governors, 1913-16, His Excellency: the Governor, Right Hon. W. F. Massey. P.C., M.P., Right Hon. Sir J„. G. Ward, Bart., K.C.M.G., Hon. Edwin Mitchelson,, Brigadier-General A. W. Robin, C. 8., C.M.G., Colonel B. J. Col-, lins, C.M.G., 1.8.0., A. M. Myers, Esq.,' M.P., H. O. Tewsloy, Esq., J. B. Coates, Esq., A. Kidd, Esq.; trustees, Hon. E. Mitohelsort, J. B. Coates, Esq.. A hearty vote of. thanks was accorded i to Mr Alfred Kidd and the .Auckland committee, also to tho chaplains, medical and dental officials, auditor and legal adviser who have given their services gratuitously for the benefit of the institution; and the board noted with pleasure the good work done by the superintendent (Major Carpenter) and his staff. ■■■■■. ■ , ■ '• -
