RATING AMENDMENT BILL
LOCAL BODIES’ LANDS. ■The Hon. G. W. Russell moved the second reading of the Rating Amendment Bill, explaining that it restored.the law to what it was before. the year'l9l3 in regard to the rating. Of property v owned by local bodies. ; Ml* G. ' Witty (Eiccarton) stated, that the measure was a necessary one, . An, 1013 a bill was* brought .down by which no local' body paid rates - on any land in any county outside its own district. * A hardship was thus imposed on some counties. ■ ( *.*■ *. , , , .■ * Mr Russell; said that the provision was passed' by mistake. ■■ * ■■ ■. * :', ■■ ■ ■ •Mr J. - McCombs (Lyttelton) thought the matter should bo jiostponed for a more comprehensive meakure. V Mr C: E. Statham (Dunedin Central) said the present law in this connection .was a .-.blunder which pressed, heavily, on particular local bodies. ._ . . ; The Hon. G. W.
