COLLIERY DISPUTE
BASIS FOR AMICABLE ARRANGEMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received October 11, 8.5 p.m.) , SYDNEY, October 11. A conference of tho Northern Colliery Proprietors and Australasian Colliery Employees’ Federation arrived at a compromise, thereby tho ceasework notices, which should have operaled from Saturday, have been withdrawn. Work was continued,to-day. Nothing was officially disclosed, but it is understood that though the miners’ demands for a twenty por cent, increase for underground employees, and 26 per cent, for top hands, were not wholly conceded, tho foundation , has been laid for an amicable arrangement. Meantime, the terms agreed on have been submitted to tho district lodges for ratification. Negotiations are proceeding m other colliery districts, and when finality has been reached, tho whole business will bo submitted to the Arbitration Court.
