Johnston) took the chair at 2-30 p.mOn tho motion of Sir Francis Bell, it was resolved that the Solicitor-General should be instructed to cause a compilation to be made under the Statutes Compilation Act of tho Land Transfer Act. 1908, and its amendments, the Harbours Act, the Inspection of Machinery Act, and the Defence Act. 1909, and amendments. The Arbitration Amendment . Bill was referred to the Statutes Revision Com- * PAYMENT OF BATES. The Local Authorities Empowering Bill was considered in Committee. Clause 4 was amended to allow of the postponement of the 10 per cent, on rates payable in the case of death, and also postponement of payments bv absent soldiers “from time to time.” The bill was read a third time and passedSOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS. ■The New Zealand Society of Accountants Amendment Bill was considered in Committee. Sir Francis Bell explained that tho bill amended section 30 of .the principal Act so a* to allow the reinstatement ‘of members whose names have been removed from the register at the discretion of the Council. The Hon. O- Samuel (Taranaki) spoke in support of the measure, which was reported without amendment, and passed through remaining stages. The Council at 3 o’clock adjourned until Friday.
