The “Daily Chronicle’s” Turin correspondent states that the German Military Attache has quitted Constantinople, and the archives of the Embassy have been also removed. The paper “11 Secolo” states that the impression exists that the collapse of the Turao-German defence in the Dardanelles is not far off. RELATIONS BETWEEN TURKS AND GERMANS STRAINED * ! LONDON, July'l3. The Italian Consuls at Jerusalem, Aleppo, and Beirut have arrived- at Naples. They declare that Turkey is exhausted, and that the Arab element has completely separated its cause from that of the Ottomans. Turkish resistance at tho Dardanelles will continue, for that is where the last fonids of the Empire are being expended. ' ALLEGATION THAT ALLIES USED GAS “Times” and Sydney ‘‘Sun” Services LONDON, July 13. The War Office announces that a statement in a Turkish communique that the Allies at the Dardanelles used gas against the enemy is false, and that the Allies have not resorted to this method of warfare. STUPENDOUS FORTIFICATIONS AT CONSTANTINOPLE 1 (Received July 14, 11.55 p.m.) MITYLENE, July 14. Tho Germans are erecting strengthening fortifications at Constantinople on a stupendous scale on the seafront. Trenches have been dug at half-mile intervals from San Stefano to Silivri, with concealed batteries and guns of all sizes.
