From Masterton the following remitwas introduced at the annual conference of the Council of Agriculture yesterday:—“That operations under the Workers’ Dwellings Acts bo pushed more in country districts, especially m the vicinity of schools.” It was stated that the demand for workers’ dwellings in Masterton was much greater than the supply. Other speakers condemned the practice of the Government in erecting these residencesc In wood. It was pointed out that when a wooden house attained a certain age, it was avoided by tenants. This was very often seen in the suburbs of New Zealand towns. The idea was general that the construction of workers' houses in concrete should be tried, but against this it was asserted that such cottages would bo so expensive that no worker could afford the rent. The remit was adopted.
