The Feilding Chamber of Commerce on Monday night passed the following resolutions: —That in view of the urgent call by Lord Kitchener for more men, and of the imperative need for substantial and thorough organisation in New Zealand, the suggestion he convoyed to the Prime Minister that steps might be token for the recall of General Davies, and his appointment as Minister for War in a National Ministry ; that this chamber regards with grave apprehension the expressed intention of the Minister for Finance to raise a portion of the ten pillion war loan in the Dominion, and is decidedly of opinion that the adoption of such a course will greatly' disturb the local money market, hamper trade, retard agricultural and’pastoral development, and seriously raise mortgage and bank interest rates. The Petone Borough Council is desirous that children of fallen New Zealand soldiers should he given profer--tice of entry to the public service, and nas approached the Minister for De. fence with this object in view. & reply has been received from the Minister stating that the Government could not do more than it was doing at present, and the council is writing him further on the subject.
