During la«t week, the Department of Labour in Wellington received 104-ap-plication® from men seeking employ, ment. Thirty-one of these were p’sc»d. 29 in Government and two m private employment. Work is still renuired fA r 73. which number includes 56 labourers and 15 painters. Altogether, there are 24 painters out of work, but the present is always ia slack season for this class of trade. A gang of men left for Ranrimu yesterday, and tomorrow another gang of 20 men leavo for the quarries at Sandy Bay.
