The Polo and Moonbarra fell at the first jump. Booligal took command at the abattoirs from Carlmalion, Guncap, and Flash Jack. At the stone wall Carlmalion fell, and Guncap and El Progresso fell at the abattoirs. Booligal held the lead to the turn, when Flash Jack overhauled him. Tim Doolan made a great effort from the back of the field, but was unable to catch Flash Jack, who won by two lengths, four lengths between second and third. Fireworks was last. Time, 6min 39sec.
