Preaa Association. TIMARU, July 8. The first meeting of the resuscitated South Canterbury Trotting Club was held to-day. The weather was not favourable; nevertheless there was a good attendance, comparing favourably with recent race meetings, a good many coming from. Christctiii'ch by special train. There were-large fields and the meeting was quite a success. Results: —
TRIAL HANDICAP, of 80 so vs; on© mile and a half. —3 Joyful, 17sec, 1; 10 Green Ribbon, 18seo, 2; 7 Prinz, 17seo, 3. Fourteen started. Nutwood Junr 18sec being favourite. Won pulling up by four lengths. Time, 3min 43 2-ssec.
WAIMATE HANDICAP, of 90'sovs; one mile and ai half.—2 Bon Ami, 24sec„ 1; 1 Sweetmeat. 25sec,_2; 15 Grattan Abbey, 13sec, 3. Nineteen started. Won by eight lengths. Time, 3min 51 3-ssec.
