Yesterday's sitting of tihe Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Insobriety cost Samuel Herbert Hun"ter and Charles Dickson each £l, .or three days’ , imprisonment. •Claude Illingworth was fined- 40s, or seven days’ imprisonment, for indecency. . . On the application of Inspector Hendrey, William Henry Mitchell, who was charged with stealing an overcoat, a pair of boots, and a portmanteau, from the Hotel Bristol, -was remanded, until Tuesday next. , John Bvensen, charged with assaulting David Bertie, was remanded until Friday. LOWER HUTT CASES.
The monthly sitting of the. Lower Hutt Court was held yesterday before Messrs G. A. Chapman, J. Cudby, and J. Wilkin, J.P.’si To a charge of driving a motor-car at a speed exceeding the .limit laid down by the Lower Hutt Borough bylaws, H. A. Quarterman pleaded guilty and was fined 10s, . with costs amounting to 325, in default twentyfour hours’ imprisonment. Eor allowing cattle to wander, J. Bradley was fined 20s, with costs 7s ; R, Hobbs XOs, costs' 7s; J. Martin ss, costs 7s; Daniel Nyhano 10s, costs 7s. ‘ In the civil case, Clendon Bros. y. James Mabev, in which the plaintiff claimed £3 12s 6d, judgment was given by default for the amount, with costs ss. ~ _ John Eli Ellis sued John Casey O’Keefe for £6 4s for grazing. The claim was disputed, but after hearing evidence the Bench gave judgment for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with £2 3s costs. -
