CAPTAIN BEAN EXPLAINS
DELAY WITH REGARD TO CABLE MESSAGES. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright SYDNEY. July 7. Captain Bean, official reporter with the Australian troops, explains that the delay in regard to his early cables was due to the fact that he had not been authorised to communicate with tho press owing to the Admiralty’s delay in granting him permission to accompany the force. It was due to tho kindness of Major-General Bridges, Major-General Birdwood, and General Sir lan Hamilton that ho was able to land at all.
With reference to the alleged atrocities, ho only heard of one case which was in tho least substantiated —that concerning tho mutiliation of a British soldier at the,. Hellespont.
